Features: Peak Performance Launches a Fully Dismantlable and Recyclable Circular Puffer Jacket

Peak Performance has introduced a major step forward in circular outerwear with the release of the Helium Loop Anorak, a puffer jacket designed to be fully dismantled and recycled at the end of its life. The project explores how technical performance garments can be built with circularity at the core, addressing one of the biggest sustainability challenges in outdoor apparel.

The Helium Loop Anorak uses heat-activated thread technology that allows the jacket to be taken apart in a controlled recycling process. When heated, the stitching dissolves, making it possible to separate the down insulation from the outer shell materials without damaging either component. This is a significant improvement over traditional outerwear, which often uses glued seams, complex panel construction and mixed materials that prevent effective recycling.

The outer shell of the jacket is made from NetPlus® recycled nylon, produced from discarded fishing nets and other post-consumer ocean waste. The insulation comes from ALLIED Feather + Down, offering a responsibly sourced, biodegradable fill that can be recovered and reused through the dismantling process. Together, these choices reduce environmental impact while maintaining the durability and performance expected from premium outerwear.

This design approach helps address a long-standing issue in the outdoor industry: most jackets, even those made from recycled fibres, eventually end up in landfill because they cannot be easily disassembled. By building circularity into the garment from the start, Peak Performance demonstrates how outerwear can be designed for longevity, recovery and a lower overall footprint.

The Helium Loop Anorak is currently positioned as an innovation-led release, offering a glimpse into how future performance jackets may be made. With simplified construction, clear material pathways and a focus on end-of-life recovery, it represents an encouraging step towards more sustainable technical apparel.
